Moscow Residential Project A “Manifesto” Of Modernism

MOD, a high-rise housing complex under construction in Moscow, is being referred to as a “manifesto of Modernist minimalist principles in architecture,” ARCHI.RU said in a September report. Designed by Kleinewelt Architekten for developer MR Group, the multi-tower project sits 400 m from a metro station also under construction. The three-tower MOD residential segment is being built on a 2.4-ha. site that was once grounds of an industrial area. Two of the towers will stand 200-m, with the third, shorter tower standing 165 m. The site will also include the new headquarters of Russian Railways, to be built with what designers say will be more of a “city” kind of typology, as opposed to the residential section. A plaza will be situated at the housing complex but will be open to the public. Housing residents will have access to a private yard separated from the plaza by a fence, and there will be two small, private parks set at a higher level that allow residents to look at the city below. All three towers are crowned with golden “heads” of anodized aluminum that host six floors of penthouses. Construction began in June, but the source did not note a scheduled completion date.
