Liverpool City Council in the U.K. is set to approve a supplementary planning document (SPD) intended to help ensure new tall structures make a positive contribution to the city skyline and its growth, The Business Desk reports. Informed by public engagement, the SPD would supplement Liverpool’s Local Plan and lay out detailed specifics about height, design and location. Counsellor Nick Small observed the SPD is a timely document in that it will help guide Liverpool’s waterfront strategy. “Liverpool has a great tradition of building tall, notably with the (Royal) Liver Building on the waterfront and skyscraper construction at Oriel Chambers,” City Council Director of Planning and Building Control Samanta Campbell said. Five Liverpool locations have been identified as potential locations for tall building clusters. They are Liverpool Waters, the Commercial District, Leeds Street/Pall Mall/Paddington Village and the southern fringe of the Baltic Triangle.
