GAL Makes an Acquisition, Opens Miami Facility

GAL Manufacturing Corp., headquartered in Bronx, New York, and a portfolio company of San Francisco’s Golden Gate Capital, has made an acquisition and opened a Miami facility. GAL acquired Sacramento, California-based Elevator Controls Corp. Established in 1986 by brothers Fernando and Francisco Ortiz, Elevator Controls provides a range of elevator-control solutions, including the Pixel controller line, which GAL notes is a “highly regarded [product line] that incorporates backward compatibility to eliminate board and software version issues and enable older equipment to be easily updated.” Elevator Controls has completed more than 35,000 Pixel installations. The company will continue to be led by the Ortiz brothers in Sacramento.

GAL also opened a regional service center in Miami. GAL said the storefront provides large areas to display equipment and products from its family of companies, including Hollister-Whitney, Courion, Bore-Max and GAL Canada. It also encompasses a fully stocked warehouse, training and education area and the services of elevator professionals Technical Support Engineer Jose Rios and Customer Service Representative David Tejara. The address is 15825 NW 15th Avenue, Miami Gardens, and the phone number is (877) 425-7763.

KEB America Certified to New ISO Standard

KEB America, Inc. has announced the ISO 9001:2015 certification of its Shakopee, Minnesota, production facility. The certification was issued after the facility met the criteria set by The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and passed an audit displaying zero nonconformities. ISO 9001:2015 applies to a facility’s quality-management and quality-assurance systems. The company had previously been certified under 9001:2008. The 2015 standard is similar in many ways to the previous one, but with an additional focus on risk management. KEB was able to demonstrate processes to address issues posted by ISO in this area and reevaluated and updated its plans.
