ELEVATOR WORLD proudly announces the 2024 Project of the Year winners. Expert teams in Canada, the U.S., the U.K., Singapore and the Middle East emerged victorious by successfully completing challenging, rewarding vertical-transportation (VT) projects in eight categories featuring office buildings, public transit systems, private residences, a hotel and a university, among others. This year’s winning projects are outstanding, and we heartily congratulate all the companies, teams and individuals involved. Looking at the locations of this year’s winners reflects the fact that the world is, in the grand scheme of things, small, and that VT goes on despite even the most unthinkable of challenges — in this year’s case the ongoing war in Israel. There, before the northern Israeli city of Nahariya opened public bomb shelters following barrages of Hamas rockets, a local VT company worked with its partners through challenges that included strong winter winds and rain, in addition to the COVID-19 pandemic, to complete a one-of-a-kind goods lift for a bar/restaurant on the top floor of a high-end, 12-story hotel. Three of this year’s winners are in North America: two projects on different sides of Canada — in Montreal and Calgary — and one in Manhattan, NY. Ironically, the NYC project did not involve speedy elevators serving one of the city’s many skyscrapers, but rather, a unique wood and steel staircase lift in a turn-of-the-century building on a university campus. Other winners showcase a team coming together to bring an antiquated elevator system serving a historic U.S. West Coast building into the 21st century and beyond, and complex public mass-transit systems in the U.K. and Singapore, respectively. Also recognized are a custom elevator for a high-end Canadian home and a bespoke lift system for a national pavilion at a major world expo in Dubai.
Those involved in the winning projects include major OEMs, smaller VT independents, consultants, architects, engineers and general contractors, to name a few. Teamwork was a key factor in each project, with companies often having to coordinate with numerous trades on the jobsite while complying with stringent codes and regulations.
