Eight elevators in two towers of Sabancı Center, located in 4. Levent, Istanbul, and composed of two towers of 140- and 158-meters, were decided to be modernized in 2019. Modernization project was given to Otis.
Project drawing of Sabancı Center in 4. Levent, İstanbul, was started in 1987. The facility was constructed between April 1988 and May 1993, and opened its doors in September 1993. The highest tower of the complex belongs to Akbank, and the other belongs to Sabancı Holding. In the complex, which has 25 elevators in total, there are eight passenger lifts in each tower, two parking lot lifts and five lifts in common use areas.
16 Elevators are Modernized
In 2019, the facility management decided to modernize eight elevators in each tower, in order to keep up with the developing and growing technology, and to respond to new ideas.
The main target of the modernization project was to meet the expectations below:
- High-level of comfort during travel
- Precision at take-offs and stops,
- Energy saving up from 20 percent to 30 percent
- Safety measures
- Contemporary and aesthetic view
- Accessibility
155 HT DC motors were used in the passenger lifts, which were installed in 1990. With modernization, the Quattro II Regen drive synchronous motor speed adjusting system was adapted to these motors in order to provide instantaneous control of acceleration and deceleration during take-offs and stops. The system controls the cabin load and the current speed during travel, and transfers the required amount of energy to the motor for acceleration or deceleration. Thus, electric loss was highly prevented. Additionally, the speed control unit provided energy saving of approximately 30 percent, thanks to its Regen feature, which transfers the energy back to the network based on the elevator load and location.
Also, Ultra Roller was used to improve the comfort of high-speed elevators, so high-level improvement was achieved.
Modern and Contemporary View with New Cabins
One of the targets of the modernization project in 2019 was to replace the old cabins installed in 1990 with new cabins that look modern and contemporary. Stainless-steel cabins were replaced with glass cabins. A full-length mirror and, behind it, a 43’’display have been placed on the rear panel of the cabin. With the application of Textile Box, the cabin ceiling has been raised and a refreshing environment with modern look was provided.
The new Dynamic Signage solution, developed by Otis in order to create a more modern ambiance, also provides an elegant view for elevator halls, and a 3D view that simplifies using the elevators.
