Photo Contest 2023

The 11th annual photo contest gets most submissions ever.

This year’s ELEVATOR WORLD Photo Contest hit some highs! The 388 photo submissions are the most-ever (as far as we know), and the Illustrations category got more submissions than ever before due to the expansion of the category to include one of this year’s most-talked about (even if not always positively!) topics: AI. We also added a brand-new category this year — Elevator Company Factories/Facilities — and the submissions did not disappoint. This is the 11th edition of our annual Photo Contest, and we are more and more pleased each year with the types of submissions we get and how popular the voting has become. This year, 5,653 total votes were placed. Each year, we’re excited to see what comes through, and it’s nice to know that you, our great readers, seem excited to see them, too.

We kick off the contest winners with a bang: City Skylines and Tall Buildings. Two are from the U.S., one is from the U.K. and the honorable mention comes from Milan, Italy. The Elevator Company Factories/Facilities winners show us the goings-ons of factories in Canada and Florida with an aerial shot of the “oldest escalator factory in the world” in Germany. The six winners in Elevators/Lifts, both Commercial and Private Residence, show just how truly special elevators can be and how easily they can be integrated into a setting. The Escalators and Moving Walks winners show color and a lack of color mixed with two sets used in urban mobility.

The Historical/Legacy Equipment winners take us back in time, before 1965, with some truly unique images to behold. Our Hoistway winners run the gamut in both color and style, and the winners for the Illustrations category are unique, as well. The Machines and Components offerings show a hoist machine, a cable guide and a two-speed door operator. To close, the Projects in Action winners show the lengths that some in our industry have to go to each day to get the job done.

We hope you enjoy!
