This Product Spotlight highlights the fruits of Niagara Belco’s recent labor.

Niagara Belco Elevator Inc. of Hamilton, Canada, focuses on elevators for residential and light commercial applications. It also offers mobility products, such as vertical platform lifts and stairlifts. In addition to standard applications, the company designs and manufactures panoramic elevators, custom finishes and unique compilations, such as the timber-and-glass application, which Niagara Belco modified from its Victorian line, shown in Figure 1.
The company’s new home-elevator design uses a modular aluminum rail system. Owner Derek Moorse explained:
“The 8-ft sections come already tied together and go directly on the rail wall without having to put up rail brackets first and then the heavy guide rail system. Our sections weigh only around 80 lb and are tongue-and-grooved for a quick and easy installation. The rollers ride on the inside of the aluminum channel. The cab is also aluminum, with the interior cosmetic panels framed for a modern look, and you can remove those panels from inside the cab, so a homeowner can change the look of their elevator with minimal effort and costs. The cab gate is also aluminum extruded with a modern selection of
colors and materials. We use a digital multispeed valve on our hydraulic power unit and have developed our own programmable logic controller with a human/machine interface in the car operating panel. It allows the mechanic to make adjustments and view any faults easily from the cab, and it allows a homeowner to customize the display as desired. We are looking forward to this new product making a serious impact on the home elevator industry.”
