Company marks decade of production at MIDC, Ranjangaon, Pune, facility.
My interactions with team Schmersal and its Managing Director (MD) Sagar Bhosale at vertical-transportation industry events and the inauguration of the company’s Global Support IT Centre in Pune in 2018 were followed by the e-inauguration ceremony of its Export Oriented Unit (EOU) expansion in 2020.
When Schmersal India achieved the 100-crore mark in 2022, the triumph was a precursor to another important milestone. July 1 marked a decade of Schmersal India’s production facility at Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), Ranjangaon, Pune, and ELEVATOR WORLD India was invited to be part of the celebration.
It was my first visit to the facility, and the journey from Mumbai was quite pleasant. While the monsoon had recently commenced across the state of Maharashtra, thankfully, the rains didn’t play spoilsport, and the event witnessed a wide spectrum of guests from across the globe.
The red carpet was rolled out for the invitees as Schmersal India commenced celebrating “10 years of manufacturing excellence” with channel partners, suppliers, customers and employees in the factory. Presentations were made highlighting the significance of the occasion with noteworthy dignitaries in attendance.
Schmersal India was established in 2007 with only three members. Due to growing demand for safety products in India over the years, the Schmersal Group decided to set up a manufacturing facility at MIDC, Ranjangaon, Pune in 2013. The multinational corporation has a manufacturing facility for safety products in India in line with international safety standards — true to the motto “Make in India.” The Schmersal factory at MIDC Ranjangaon, Pune, with almost 4,000 m2 of production and storage space, produces safety systems and solutions for machine safety.
In the last 10 years, Schmersal India has written an unprecedented success story: The company has continuously expanded its production and business activities, headed by Sagar Bhosale, MD and founding member. Under his leadership, Schmersal India has experienced exponential, double-digit sales growth, not only in products but also in services, which is now an established part of the business. The workforce has grown to 143 employees.
In May 2021, Schmersal India celebrated a major milestone by producing 100,000 safety products in a single month. A new milestone was reached in December 2022 when the company crossed the INR100 million turnover with its Indian operations.
Schmersal India also expanded its sales activities in India — both by opening new sales offices and by expanding its network of distribution channels to address new markets, increase geographical coverage and improve knowledge and awareness of machine safety in India. Schmersal India also supplies its products and solutions to all South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation countries.
As part of its global strategy, Schmersal India established a new competence center for IT, software and engineering services in India (Schmersal Global Competence Centre) in 2022. In January 2023, Schmersal announced the inauguration of its expanded office on the sixth floor of the Nucleus Mall in Pune. This new location is an important milestone for the company as it signals its continued growth and expansion in the Indian market.
Schmersal India is a part of the Schmersal Group, which was founded in 1945 in Wuppertal, Germany, and is represented by seven manufacturing sites on three continents with its own companies and sales partners in more than 60 nations. The Schmersal Group employs 2,000-plus people worldwide.
