Upgrades for escalators and elevators, both commercial and residential

New Step Upgrade, Lowering System

Adams Elevator Equipment Co. has introduced its Uni-Step™ and automatic emergency lowering system. The Uni-Step features what Adams calls a “SureGuide™ step guidance system with strong, self-lubricating ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene guides on both sides of the step that run along the skirt panels.” They are designed to help keep the steps aligned with less lateral play and permit little step-to-skirt gap. Additionally, there are high-visibility demarcations along the sides and back of each step, full meshing front-to-back along the entire length of travel and a radiused lip for safety at the bottom of each step. The latter feature helps keep steps in place if they are subjected to upward forces.

The automatic emergency lowering system is designed for both existing and new elevators. The upgrade installation kit is available for Schindler-manufactured hydraulic elevators, including the 330A, 321A, 300A and MPH2. Available for low-rise hydraulic elevators, the system takes control immediately after an outage occurs, canceling any floor calls, lowering the car to the designated egress landing and opening elevator doors in the event of an emergency. It includes a battery-backup pack with a life of five years, cables, brackets, wiring diagrams and software.

Residential Elevator, Dumbwaiter Door Lock

Rocky Mountain Elevator Products Inc. offers its Smart Lock residential elevator door lock, intended to be easy to install and adjustable. The lock provides positive contact on the keeper like those on commercial elevator doors, which the company states have a proven safety record. The product is designed so the end user cannot tamper with or “fake” the lock with a finger by rotating a cam, thus allowing the lift to run. Its plug-and-play wiring can be connected to 24 VAC or VDC. With compact dimensions (11 X 1-5/8 X 1-5/8 in.) to meet the “3 in. rule,” it can be installed in 2 in. of space. Additionally, the Smartlock II is available for use with dumbwaiter systems.
