A real-estate subsidiary of GAESA, the military consortium in Cuba, could break ground in September on a 154-m-tall, 42-story hotel in Havana that would be Cuba’s tallest hotel, the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat reported, citing a report from AméricaTeVé. With construction expected to take approximately four years, the 565-room structure is part of GAESA’s plan to build 7,500 hotel rooms in Havana by 2025, which has been “strongly criticized” by a populace that points out government funds could be better spent on infrastructure repair. The Cuban State did not provide a cost estimate, but an anonymous source provided the conservative price tag of US$200 million.
