Liftinstituut Solutions, in cooperation with the University of Applied Science and Technology of Tehran-West, conducted its first international examination for elevator inspectors August 3-6 in Tehran. At the end of the multipart exam, eight candidates were awarded one of two levels of certification.
The exam, which was also supervised by Iran’s syndicate of elevator and escalator industries and professors Eng. Farid Hariri and Eng. Bijan Nikbakhsh, along with the academic staff and industrialists at the Koosha Center of Applied Science and Technology, was presented in stages. With 33 participants, the first stage, a two-day preexamination process, commenced at 10 a.m. on August 3 and continued August 4. Participants fluent in English took the exam in written form, while the others took it orally with the assistance of technical interpreters.
Candidates who scored at least 70% on the pre-exam advanced to the final exam, a two-part test consisting of theoretical and practical components that began at 10 a.m. on August 5. Seven participants scored well enough to proceed to the full-scope (all standards) exam, and 13 others were allowed to take the final exam on EN 81-1. The practical component of the exam was given August 6 at the test tower of Behran Lift Co. Eng. Seyed Masih Habibzadeh, industrial affairs vice president of the industry, mine and trade organization, observed the candidates during the practical exam, and discussed the level and conditions of the exam with the representative of Liftinstituut Solutions.
Eight of the 20 scored well enough (75%) on the theoretical and practical sections of the exam to win certification from Liftinstituut. Four of them won the certificate for full-scope acceptance, and the other four received EN 81-1 certification. The newly certified Lifinstituut international elevator inspectors will take part in Liftinstituut projects on either a full- or part-time basis.
At the end of the exam, organizers expressed their thanks for cooperation of all industrialists and the executive staff — Eng. Hariri, Eng. Nikbakhsh and Eng. Javad Taleghani nia — as well as Behran Lift Co., especially Abbas Shakeri and Hossein Shakeri, for providing the equipment and conditions for the practical exam. Thanks were also offered to Shahram Mardomi of Iran’s syndicate of elevator and escalator industries, Eng. Seyed Mohammad Amin Mousavi of the Iran Standards Organization, and Eng. Pedram Mirhosseini and other college personnel for their support during the examination. Eng. Habibzadeh expressed his gratitude to the executive committee and Behran Lift for holding the examination, especially the practical exam.
