James L. “Jim” Borwey, most recently manager of the Elevator, Boiler and Amusement Ride Bureau for the State of Iowa, has been appointed NAESA International executive director, NAESA President Christopher Shade announced in November. Filling a position previously held by Bob Shepherd, Borwey began his job on January 1. From starting in the industry in South Dakota in 1978, Borwey “brings a wealth of field experience and code knowledge” to the organization, NAESA observed. From South Dakota, Borwey moved to California, where he continued to work in the field before progressing to associate, then senior associate, safety engineer for California’s Division of Occupational Safety & Health Elevator Unit. In 2005, Borwey began work for the State of Iowa. Welcoming Borwey and thanking outgoing Executive Director Bob Shepherd for his years of service, Shade said Borwey has been a longtime member of NAESA and is:

  • QEI certified since December 2000
  • A certified supervisor
  • A member of the NAESA Board of Directors
  • Chair of the Central Region and the Scholarship Committee
  • A member of the Workshop Operations Committee
  • Past chair of the Board of Certification
  • A member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) A17 Regulatory Advisory Council, on which he holds the vice-chair position
  • A member of the ASME A17.1 SPPE R&P Committee
  • A member of the Wind Tower Elevator Task Group

ESI Names New CEO

Elevator Systems, Inc. (ESI), an elevator controls supplier headquartered in Garden City, New York, has named Amit Bansal CEO. Owner and former CEO Nat Alcamo has transitioned to chairman, focusing on key strategic initiatives and new product development. As CEO, Bansal will be responsible for organizational leadership with a focus on revenue growth and long-term growth strategies. With more than 20 years’ commercial, operational and financial experience, Bansal most recently served as managing director of India operations for Corning Inc. “We’re excited to welcome [Bansal] to this new role,” Alcamo said. “He brings tremendous commercial, operational and M&A experience, making him a valuable addition to the team.” Bansal said he is “honored to lead [ESI] as it enters the next stage of growth.”

United Cabs Names Girgis Vice President of Operations

United Cabs, Inc., based in Jamaica, Queens, has named Danny Girgis vice president of operations. Girgis has more than 10 years’ experience with companies including Schindler, BOCA Group and Liberty Elevator Corp. He holds a master’s degree in Technology in Project Management from Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, New Jersey, and a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the New Jersey Institute of Technology in Newark.

 

 

 

American Elevator Group Appoints VP of Service Operations

American Elevator Group (AEG) has appointed Chris Dlugolecki vice president (VP) of service operations, AEG President C. Mark Boelhouwer announced in November 2020. Based in Connecticut, Dlugolecki is fully involved with all AEG units. He is tasked with improving field service effectiveness, operational efficiency and overall customer satisfaction. Dlugolecki has more than 32 years’ experience with Otis, most recently as a Singapore-based senior director with responsibility for field operations across the Asia-Pacific. He will assist AEG with further operational improvements as acquisitions and investments are announced.

Macromatic Industrial Controls, Inc. of Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, has named Christopher B. Curtis non-executive chairman. The company said Curtis is recognized as a global leader in technology and manufacturing. He has gained strategic and operating experience with manufacturing companies in several industries during his 30-year career. Most recently, he served as CEO of Wencor Group, a private-equity-owned aerospace aftermarket specialist. He was president and CEO of Schneider Electric North America in 2008-2013, when he helped grow it to US$7 billion. Additionally, in 2014-2018, Curtis served as chairman of air-treatment-equipment manufacturer Munters AB. Finally, he also served as chairman of the National Electrical Manufacturers Association in 2014 and was presented the Bernard Falk Award in 2016 for his contributions to that industry. Macromatic designs and manufactures industrial control and monitoring products for such industries as elevators.
