May 1 marked the beginning of the International Code Council’s (ICC) 43rd annual Building Safety Month. This year’s theme is “It starts with you!” Throughout the month, the ICC will work to raise awareness of the important role building codes play in ensuring safety on a personal, local and global level. The U.S. Department of Labor Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) National Safety Stand-Down to Prevent Falls in Construction took place May 1-5. This nation-wide, voluntary event is an opportunity for employers to talk directly to employees about safety. To increase industry and general public awareness of the dangers of excessive heat exposure at work, OHSA has invited stakeholders to share their best heat risk education and prevention tools in a competition. The “Beat the Heat” national contest will accept submissions through June 9.
