São Paulo Metro Uses AI to Monitor Elevators, Escalators and More

São Paulo Metro technicians and engineers developed an AI system to monitor and address faults on elevators, escalators, trains, ventilation systems and power systems and schedule maintenance ahead of a failure, International Railway Journal reports. The metro’s Asset Monitoring System (AMS) is currently in use on the 1-Blue, 2-Green, 3-Red and 15-Silver lines and is monitored from the Metro Maintenance Control Center (MCC) at the Jabaquara rolling stock maintenance facility in the city’s Jabaquara District. The AMS also provides information to accelerate decision-making. “The MCC operator receives the data collected from the equipment and triggers the maintenance team to take action before the problem interferes with operation of the line,” observes the source. “The MCC is also provided with an overview of the complete system and can provide remote support to maintenance teams.”
