Refurbishments for the 33-year-old elevator in Victoria Hall in Petrolia, Ontario, Canada, will take place in January 2026, The Independent reports. The Town of Petrolia is setting aside CAD118,000 (US$82,856) to fix the old elevator between theater seasons. In a report to the town’s council, Julie Bullock, director of parks and recreation for the town, said there had been two incidents last fall where people were stuck in the elevator at Victoria Hall “for a short period of time” because the doors wouldn’t open. After a local inspection, TK Elevator (TKE) said that units need to be replaced every 20 to 25 years, so Bullock asked the council to fund the project through the working capital reserve this year. Bullock told the council, which agreed to the plan to have the refurbishments done in January 2026, “We can actually have TKE start building the equipment as soon as possible.”
