CiA Announces Safety Meeting, New CAN Dictionary

CAN (controller area network) in Automation (CiA) will hold an online meeting on January 30, 2024, to discuss the future of the CANopen Safety standard. The agenda includes the status of the CANopen Safety standard (EN 50325-5), the status of IEC 61508 and IEC 61784-3 and an open discussion on required improvements. If the CANopen Safety standard is not brought up to date within three years, the European standardization body may withdraw it. Additionally, CiA has released the 12th CAN Dictionary. Written in English, the new edition includes the latest terminology and explanations regarding the third generation of CAN: The CAN XL. The document can be downloaded from the CiA website as a PDF file. On request, CiA can send printed dictionaries to interested parties free of charge.
