Cooks Islands’ First Elevator on Track for August Completion

The Cook Islands Ministry of Justice elevator project  — Cook Islands’ first elevator — is on track for completion in August, the Cook Islands News reports. The seven-month elevator project is being carried out by local contractor Landholdings Ltd., while the supply, installation and commissioning will be done by a New Zealand supplier. The elevator unit is expected to arrive in June/July with commissioning planned for August. Cook Islands Investment Corp. (CIIC) General Manager, Asset Development Anne Taoro says the lift shaft construction has been a slow process to minimize disruptions to High Court sittings. The wet weather is also slowing progress. Taoro says the total cost will be around $530,000, which includes designs, peer reviews, the shaft, lift and associated works, as well as a roof extension between the lift at the main entrance doors to the Ministry of Justice.
