Deadly Apartment Fire Leaves Elevators Waterlogged

Residents of 35 Brock Street, one of the Marina Towers, in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, were without operational elevators for at least 24 h due to a fatal fire that occurred on the morning of January 27, The Public Record (TPR) reports. TPR stated that the building’s two elevators were submerged in water after fire suppression operations flooded the shafts. The building’s property management company is working to begin repair efforts. “Car 2” was lifted above the water and hoped to be repaired, with replacement parts installed, by the end of January 27. Hamilton Fire Chief Dave Cunliffe said that at approximately 10:16 a.m., emergency dispatchers received reports of people trapped inside the apartment and that firefighters were unable to get to the apartment due to the intensity of the fire. Cunliffe reported that three people perished in the apartment fire: one adult and two children.
