Eight people were rescued from an elevator on August 20 after they got stuck at the Collector Office at Tiruchirappalli, India, The Hindu reports. The incident occurred on the ground floor after the elevator brought them down from the second floor. The doors of the elevator had failed to open upon reaching the ground floor. The panicked passengers raised an alarm, and onlookers made attempts to force open the elevator. Fire and Rescue Services personnel broke the door open and rescued the riders. Collector T. Prabhu Shankar, who oversaw the rescue work, told The Hindu that the elevator was too full.
