KONE has won an order to provide a suite of vertical-transportation (VT) products for 2 Trafalgar Way in Tower Hamlets, part of a mixed-use student accommodation complex on the edge of the Canary Wharf business district in London Docklands. KONE was involved in the design process for 2 Trafalgar Way early on and will install seven JumpLift 200 elevators for enhanced construction efficiency. The VT order also comprises six accessibility platforms, five construction time use (CTU) elevators, five KONE MiniSpaceâ„¢ elevators, eight KONE MonoSpace® 700 elevators, and two KONE MonoSpace 500 elevators. All the elevators will have KONE’s destination control system (DCS). The elevator experience in the student-led accommodation will be enhanced by the KONE Elevator Call, allowing passengers to call the elevator with their smart phones. This new community-centric space is poised to become the largest Passivhaus in Europe. The building complex will consist of three towers rising to 28, 36 and 48 stories. 2 Trafalgar Way is expected to open for the 2026/27 academic year. The developer is Urbanest UK Ltd., and the main contractor is Midgard Ltd. The architectural design was done by Apt.
