Metro Announces Modernization Project

The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, commonly referred to as Metro, announced the beginning of a new modernization project on February 10, reports DC News Now. The project will take place over the next four years and will include the modernization of 27 elevators across more than a dozen Washington, D.C. stations to improve reliability. Each project will make the elevators undergoing repairs inoperable for two to three months and crews will be replacing and upgrading all major components including passenger cabs, controls, motors and safety devices. Free shuttle buses will be provided for passengers that require the use of elevators. Metro said that work on the project that is part of regular elevator maintenance began at the Archives-Navy Memorial-Penn Quarter Station.
