National Elevator Industry, Inc. (NEII) Executive Director Amy Blankenbiller and Elevator Industry Work Preservation Fund (EIWPF) lobbyist John Federico testified before the Kansas House Committee on Federal & State Affairs on January 19 in support of a bill that would establish a state elevator program and licensing requirements, NEII reports. Kansas is one of two U.S. states — the other being Delaware — that lacks a statewide elevator program. The next morning, NEII hosted an educational breakfast that included MEI Total Elevator Solutions President Rick Lowenberg, Keith Sullivan of EIWPF and Richard Sargent with the International Union of Elevator Constructors Local 12 providing general remarks in support of the bill. As MEI services vertical transportation at the Kansas Statehouse, details of the historic building, including its antique cage elevator built in the 1920s, were provided. NEII will report further as the Kansas legislative session progresses.
