Developers have started work in downtown Austin, Texas, on a 58-story, 675-ft-tall skyscraper that will bring more apartments, offices and retail space, Austin American-Statesman reports. The project, named 321 West, is being developed by Tishman Speyer, a global real estate developer based in NYC, and Ryan Companies of Minneapolis, Minnesota. The site will bring 369 apartments on floors 22-54, and the building will offer 140,000 ft2 of office, retail and 440 parking spaces on floors two through 11. Since 2016, more than 500 companies have relocated to or expanded in Austin, which now has more than 7,000 high-tech companies. More than 300 restaurants, bars and shops are within four blocks of the 321 West. The project is being designed by Handel Architects, partnering with Austin-based Page and with interiors by INC Architecture & Design. Among its amenities are a lounge and terrace on the 55th floor, with views of downtown Austin and Lady Bird Lake. The new tower is expected to be completed in 2024. It is set one block east of mixed-use high-rise Sixth and Guadalupe, also under construction.
