Renovations to the historic Perth Amboy, New Jersey, train station are set to begin, after a US$45.5-million construction contract was awarded to Hall Construction Co. of Monmouth County, my central jersey reported on November 11. The project, awarded by the NJ Transit board of directors, will make the station fully accessible. The work calls for the construction of two new high-level platforms and four new elevators, plus additional ramps and stairs providing access to the platforms. Upon completion of the project, the station will meet the requirements under the U.S. Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Other improvements include renovations of restrooms, installation of upgraded security cameras, and repairs to both the eastbound and westbound buildings and to the pedestrian bridge. The work is expected to be completed in early 2024.
