The newly inaugurated Vancouver City Council has approved a 47-story tower that includes 285 condominium and 87 affordable, “social housing” units at 1063-1075 Barclay Street in downtown Vancouver’s West End neighborhood, Daily Hive reports. Developed by Pacific Northern Developments, the 475-ft-tall structure was designed by Montreal-based ACDF Architecture and IBI Group with an appearance “defined by its garden-inspired theme, with the intricate system of balconies taking on shapes of flora and fauna.” City of Vancouver Counsellor Peter Meiszner described the design as “beautiful,” and said the building will “fit right in with some of the older buildings in the West End.” Nearly half of the residential units are sized for families, with 27% of the residential portion — which exceeds the city’s West End Plan 25% requirement — dedicated to social housing.
