One Dead, Seven Injured in India Elevator Crash

A 35-year-old worker has died and seven others were injured after a goods elevator crashed from the third floor of a textile factory in the Bhatar area of Surat, India, on October 5, The Indian Express reports. According to Khatodara police, the incident took place around 8 a.m. when a group of eight workers were coming down the elevator from the third floor with textile goods. The cable of the lift snapped, and it crashed down 30 ft. The injured were rushed to New Civil Hospital. At the time of the report, five of the seven injured were listed as in “serious” condition. The Khatodara police registered an Offence of Accidental Death and started a probe.
