A Pakistan Senate committee meeting in Islamabad is recommending the construction of tall government apartment buildings to replace old houses in a plan optimize land use in the capital, DAWN reports. In the past, large single-story structures have been built in various sectors. Officials note that these houses cover multiple acres of city land. It was noted that this situation has fueled complaints over lack of funding and mechanisms to repair and maintain the houses. Senators are planning to meet with government housing and financing ministries officials, then bring their report to the full committee.
