Plans for the tallest tower in the San Francisco Bay Area outside of San Francisco cleared a hurdle recently with permits filed to demolish a midrise structure at 415 20th Street in downtown Oakland, California, SF YIMBY reports. A 39-story, 622-ft-tall office tower designed by Pickard Chilton with Kendall Heaton Associates as the architect of record is planned for the site, less than a block from a Bay Area Rapid Transit Station and three blocks from Lake Merritt Park. On tap are 897,950 ft2 of office space, 2,280 ft2 for retail and a 262-vehicle parking garage. A landscaped rooftop deck that could be open to the public is also planned. Construction is expected to take approximately two years  and eight months. The tower will share a block with 1900 Broadway, a 29-story residential building being developed by the Behring Co.
