On the closing day of EXPO 2020 Dubai on March 31, TK Elevator (TKE) reflected on the success of the region’s first world expo and said the realization of MULTI — its ropeless, horizontal-and-vertical-moving elevator system — is approaching. MULTI was among solutions exhibited at the German Pavilion at the expo, which attracted 23 million visitors to see technologies from 190 countries. TKE said with a digital exhibit, it demonstrated how MULTI operates in a high-rise building of the future. A dynamic 3D animation also “gave visitors a look inside the building, where they could see and experience the innovative elevator system in operation.” Europe’s Liftinstituut has already approved the general MULTI concept, including its safety features, and work is underway to certify its design. TKE has had a fully functional 1:1 MULTI model operating at its Rottweil, Germany, test tower since 2017 (ELENET 688), and the OEM aims to install an updated version of the prototype once the system has full European approval, anticipated by the end of 2023. TKE is in talks with architects and building planners about integrating MULTI in upcoming high-rise buildings.
