NYC subway riders welcomed two new Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)-compliant elevators at the Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s (MTA)  Livonia Avenue station in Brownsville, Brooklyn, earlier this month, WWLP is among outlets to report. MTA tells ELEVATOR WORLD contractors involved in the elevator work included Hollister-Whitney Elevator Co., headquartered in Quincy, Illinois; Velis Elevator (cabs and entrances), based in Lindenhurst, New York; and Citnalta & Tap Electric, a joint venture. Along with the elevators, MTA installed a walkway overpass at Livonia Avenue along the L train, new lighting and camera systems. Observing the elevators are a major enhancement for Brownsville and East New York riders, MTA Construction & Development President Jamie Torres-Springer said “thoughtful design, careful construction management” and close partnerships with city and local elected officials enabled the authority to complete the complex project. The nearby Junius Street station on the 3 line is also set for accessibility upgrades as MTA strives to improve a system in which only a quarter of the stations are accessible. MTA plans to issue requests for proposals for the Junius Street station work later this year.
