Vertical Transportation Issues at Pensacola Airport
Travelers at Pensacola International Airport in Florida are irritated over the lack of transportation to and from the second floor of the terminal, WEAR News reports. Aging escalators and elevators are leaving travelers frustrated with longer lines and lack of disabled services. An anonymous airport staff member wrote to the source: “The elevators in the airport have been out of service for three weeks or more and now the escalators are also down.” The city cites record travelers, aging equipment and supply chain challenges for the equipment failure. The airport has responded to the lingering issue, but says it won’t be an overnight fix. The mayor’s office tells WEAR News a design was completed for new escalators, and construction will begin in the fall. WEAR News was also told repairs on elevators will take a few weeks.
