With Dubai Aviation Engineering Projects (DAEP) recently announcing the award of the Automated People Mover (APM) contract for the Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC) expansion, tender documents for the expansion’s vertical-transportation (VT) package are likely in the pipeline. The APM contract for the first phase of the US$35-billion DWC expansion of the airport near Dubai that will become the world's largest by passenger capacity was awarded to a consortium consisting of Mitsubishi Corp. of Japan and India's Larsen & Toubro. The underground APM system will serve as the airport's internal transit backbone, transporting passengers between terminals and concourses through multiple underground routes. The first phase includes four underground stations, and the fully developed expansion will feature 14 stations.
