In October, Tallahassee, Florida-based elevator industry veteran Lee Rigby plans to participate in in his fourth Apalachicola RiverTrek, a 107-mi, five-day kayaking trip down the Apalachicola River in Florida. Apalachicola RiverTrek is the official awareness and fundraising campaign of Apalachicola RiverKeeper, a nonprofit dedicated to protecting and preserving the health of the important Florida waterway. Florida’s largest flowing river, it “supports critical wildlife habitat and fosters the dynamic estuary in Apalachicola Bay,” Rigby observes. Rigby humbly asks colleagues and supporters to make a doação to help RiverKeeper meet its collective fundraising goal. “No amount is too small,” he says. As for his career, Rigby remains active in the Elevator Association of Florida after wearing countless hats over nearly a half-century: installation mechanic, service technician, elevator company owner, head state inspector, consultant, continuing-education provider and expert witness. “I know at 75 I should be retired by now, but I just enjoy elevator code work too much!”
