Able to carry more than 200 people, the 26-m2, 16-mT KONE elevator cab at the Jio World Centre (JWC) in the Bandra Kurla Complex in Mumbai, India, is more like a room. It's big and powerful enough to transport a complete bridal party or classroom over five stops within JWC, spread over 18.5 acres and served by a total of 188 KONE elevators and escalators. It's joined by a massive freight elevator system that consists of 16 units with a combined 14 mT rated load. KONE India Managing Director Amit Gossain was joined by KONE and JWC officials to formally welcome this "engineering marvel" on May 5. Gossain emphasized that creating the world's largest passenger elevator was a team effort that involved engineering and other experts from all over the world.
