TheJournal.ie recently reported on Irish Rail's accessibility-driven plans to upgrade or replace vertical transportation (VT) at 22 stations this year. The service confirmed a total of 22 stations — 10 of which are in Dublin — earmarked for the work. Templemore, Thurles, Ballybrophy, Laytown, Leixlip Louisa Bridge, Monasterevin, Tullamore, Athlone and Ballinasloe stations are to get new "heavy-duty stainless-steel electric traction lifts," and modernization will take place at 11 other stations. Escalator replacements will be done at Dublin’s Connolly and Pearse stations. Finally, a system dubbed "Lift Call" will be initiated in efforts to monitor lifts by closed-circuit TV to prevent unauthorized access and vandalism.
