Abu Dhabi, U.A.E., has announced Marsa Al Saadiyat, a landmark AED100-billion (US$27.29-billion) mixed-use waterfront development by Aldar that will complete the Saadiyat Island masterplan and create one of the emirate's largest integrated coastal destinations. Spanning approximately 6.4 million m² along an 8-km waterfront, the development is planned to accommodate approximately 58,000 residents. From a vertical-transportation (VT) perspective, the development is expected to generate substantial demand over the coming years for elevators, escalators and moving walks across residential towers, luxury hotels, commercial buildings, retail developments, marina facilities, transport infrastructure and public space. It is expected people from around the world will buy properties in the development. With construction expected to progress in phases, Marsa Al Saadiyat represents one of the U.A.E.'s most significant long-term opportunities for the VT industry and further reinforces Abu Dhabi's continuing investment in world-class urban and waterfront developments. — reported by MJ Mohamed Iqbal, EW Middle East Corrispondente
