The 55th National Assembly of Italy’s National Association of Lifts Manufacturing and Maintenance Companies (ANACAM) was held at the Chia Laguna Resort, Sardinia, Italy, on June 18-19. It was your author’s privilege to address delegates from across the global elevator industry on the opening day, representing the second generation of leadership at Virgo Communications & Exhibitions Pvt Ltd.

My presentation, titled “India: Powering the Next Billion Elevator Rides,” highlighted India’s remarkable growth across infrastructure, urban development, real estate and manufacturing and the tremendous opportunities this creates for the elevator, mobility, parking systems and access control industries.

It also conveyed how Smart Lift & Mobility (SLM) World Expo, together with the ELEVATOR WORLD India (EWI) Summit and Future Buildings & Smart Mobility (FBSM) Summit, provides an ideal platform for global companies to explore India’s fast-growing market, connect with key stakeholders and expand their business in one of the world’s most promising economies.

With a 1.46 billion-plus population, the world’s fastest-growing major economy (~6–7% GDP growth) and a 600-million-plus urban population expected by 2030, India has a long-term, structural demand for vertical mobility. Real estate, the core driver, is expected to generate demand for high-speed, premium elevators with strong long-term maintenance and modernization demand in the residential segment and high-capacity, smart mobility systems with continuous, high-value service and annual maintenance contract potential in the commercial segment.

The rise of high-density urban development positions elevator companies at the center of India’s next real estate growth cycle. Simultaneously, there is a rising demand for vertical-mobility solutions powered by the large-scale, high-traffic infrastructure expanding nationwide, expanding highways and corridors driving residential and commercial development, metro and rail ecosystems, airports and aviation growth, IT, data centers and digital economy, hotels and hospitality, medical and healthcare infrastructure, spiritual economy and cultural infrastructure. India is rapidly emerging as a global manufacturing, sourcing and export hub for the elevator and vertical-mobility industry.

About ANACAM
Headquartered in Rome, ANACAM represents more than 400 industrial and craft companies operating in the lift systems sector (lifts, hoists, escalators and moving walkways, etc.). The association, established in 1971 and divided into 18 regional sections, includes all the components of the supply chain: manufacturers, installers, maintenance technicians, designers and providers of specialist services to businesses. The associated companies undertake the maintenance of more than 50% of national lifts, estimated at 900,000 units, and employ about 12,000 highly qualified technical-professional employees.
The association manages relations with the competent national and European institutions in the interest of the associates; promotes the economic development of the sector by preparing tools to support the companies and provides advice to companies on technical, regulatory, tax and legal issues specific to the sector.
ANACAM experts play an active role in the Italian (UNI), European (CEN) and international (ISO) technical standardization bodies and in the Lift Directive Working Group. The Association fostered the establishment of the European Federation of Elevator Small and Medium Enterprises (EFESME), based in Brussels.
