Atlanta City Council Member Marci Collier Overstreet called for a full investigation into an escalator malfunction at the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) Vine City station after a Beyoncé concert on July 14, WSB-TV Atlanta 2 reports. Witnesses report that the chaos at the station began with someone screaming at the top of the escalator. This caused people to panic and rush to exit the escalator. The unit then sped up and suddenly stopped, causing nine people to be injured in the stampede. MARTA said it is investigating the incident, and Overstreet said she supports MARTA’s investigation, but urges it to be fully transparent, public and hold those responsible accountable.
