A groundbreaking was held in Woburn, Massachusetts, on July 15 to mark the start of a long-anticipated elevator and accessibility upgrade at the Woburn Housing Authority’s senior housing facility, the Daily Times Chronicle reports. The multimillion-dollar project was awarded to Seaver Construction. The project will replace the building’s original 1983 elevator, as well as add a second elevator to the five-story, 45-unit complex. The US$5.8 million project, largely funded by state resources awarded through the Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities, also includes Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant upgrades, such as new accessible entrances and ramps, and a full overhaul of the building’s existing elevator equipment. Once completed, the renovations will bring structure into full compliance with current accessibility standards.
