A landmark office tower has begun rising at the intersection of Front and Simcoe streets in Toronto’s Financial District, Urban Toronto reported on April 5. The 46-story tower by Cadillac Fairview will stand out at its site, 160 Front Street West, showing off a design by AS+GG Architecture of Chicago working with Toronto-based B+H Architects and featuring a textured exterior wrapping around a curved massing. Construction launched in mid-2019 and advanced quickly before being halted to comply with a December 26, 2020-issued, province-wide shutdown. Since its recent restart, construction activity has resulted in noticeable progress, including the climb of the main tower core and a secondary elevator core that will serve just the podium levels. The main tower core has shafts for 28 elevators divided into banks serving low-, mid- and high-rise sections. 160 Front will rise 240 m and hold 134,766 m² of office and retail space upon completion. A construction timeline was not reported.
