Ground Breaks On Wuhan, China, Landmark Tower

Shimao Riverfront Block D2b; rendering by EID Architecture

In light of the city reopening after the COVID-19 outbreak, ground has been broken on Shimao Riverfront Block D2b (SRBD), a large-scale waterfront mixed-use development in Wuhan, China, EID Architecture reports. Designed by Atelier Ping Jiang/EID Arch, the urban hub and lifestyle destination is one of the major urban developments in the city and aims to be a catalyst for rebooting the economy and urban developments. Consisting of high-rise office building, hotel, residential and retail uses, the master plan is centered around creation of multidimensional public open spaces and enhancing urban experiences. The 500,000 m2 includes an office/hotel building 300 m in height, with its upper portion serving as a Conrad Hotel. The landmark tower’s tapering, sculptural massing expresses its programmatic divisions while maintaining a cohesive exterior language. Other consultants on the project include Challenge Design as the residential apartment design collaborator, Wuhan Tianhua Architectural Design as the collaborating local design institute, Central South Architectural Design Institute Co., Ltd., as structural consultant, and Squire Mech (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., as M&E consultant.
