Otis India has begun operating an online portal that allows customers to purchase the Gen2® Prime elevator over the internet, The Hindu reported on August 9. “We are the first major original equipment manufacturer in the vertical-transportation industry to release this digital capability,” said Otis India President Sebi Joseph. “Perhaps we are the first globally.” Joseph called the new capability “a disruption” and noted that “COVID accelerated it in a positive way.” The online portal allows customers to customize their orders, get a price quote and make their purchases via mobile phone or computer. The process includes public availability of prices. Buyers place their orders, which are confirmed and finalized by Otis’ sales team who then initiates the fulfilment of the orders. The Gen2 Prime elevator is manufactured by Otis in Bengaluru.
