Riding a train without buying a ticket is never a good idea, and breaking into the tunnel with a large auger is several steps beyond. David Cooper, managing director of U.K.-based Consulting Engineers LECS (UK) Ltd., noted on this photo he sent:

“A timely reminder about drilling boreholes has presented itself in London. . . . There are the age-old stories about drilling boreholes for direct-acting machines that have taken the top off a tube train or turned the lift pit into a permanent swimming pool, but this photograph of a drill that emerged into the railway tunnel near Old Street should concentrate our minds!”
