NYC Supertall by Prolific Architect KPF Set to Rise

343 Madison Avenue Designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox

Demolition preparations at the 105-year-old, 15-story former Metropolitan Transportation Authority headquarters are ramping up at 343 Madison Avenue in Midtown East, Manhattan, NYC, to make way for a 1,050-ft-tall commercial supertall by prolific Manhattan architect Kohn Pedersen Fox, New York YIMBY reports. The 754,120-ft2 development by Boston Properties is expected to yield 748,618 ft2 of office space, 2,130 ft2 of retail and 2,372 ft2 of underground paths for the future East Side Access project and Grand Central Terminal. Given the existing building’s relatively short height, demolition could be complete this winter. Slated for completion by 2026, the new supertall will have a glass curtain wall with angled spandrels and feature landscaped terraces. The elevator core will be positioned in the eastern elevation, which is defined by a “rectilinear volume that will likely run the height of 343 Madison Avenue.”
