Schindler Receives Major Contract For Cairo Monorail

Vertical-transportation (VT) company Schindler has won a major contract to build and install elevators and escalators for a monorail system in Egypt, Switzerland Global Enterprise is among news production companies that released the project in February. From its manufacturing facility in Lucerne, Switzerland, Schindler will build 136 elevators and 272 escalators for the Cairo Monorail. The new transit system will carry riders between Egypt’s New Administrative Capital and the eastern districts of Cairo. Schindler’s Ebikon office noted that the order volume comprises the “delivery, installation and maintenance” of VT for the system. Upon completion, the new transit routes will transport millions of passengers seamlessly, the company said. Julio Arce, a member of the Executive Committee at Schindler, said the new order marks “the first project in the public transport sector in Egypt,” adding that, with this, the company can continue its growth course in the region.
