Elevator Collapses in Brazil Stadium

An elevator collapsed at the Nilton Santos Stadium in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on July 23 with a Botafogo de Futebol e Regatas (Botafogo) player as well as fans inside, The Goa Spotlight reports. The source spoke to one of the victims who said 11 people were in the elevator when it stopped for approximately 20 mins before collapsing. This person also indicated that the elevator operator said the elevator was “already having problems” and “had already crashed.” Those inside were stuck for about an hour before being released. Ambulances were on the scene to treat the injured. According to the source, the club reports that “everyone is doing well.” Botafogo is a Brazilian sports club based in the bairro of Botafogo.
