Due to open in 2024, a 31-story cross-laminated timber (CLT) and steel sustainable hotel is planned by developer Thrive Construct at 187 Victoria Square in Adelaide, Australia, the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat reports, citing the Financial Review, which described it as the future world’s tallest timber hotel. Designed by Cox Architecture, the AUD170-million (US$118.8-million) structure is set to contain 324 hotel rooms, 22 apartments, a sky terrace and a rooftop bar. CTBUH observes sustainable hotel construction is gaining traction in Australia, with TFE Hotels opening a 220-room CLT and concrete property in 2020 in Melbourne and Thrive Construct having another CLT hotel in Whyalla in South Australia on the drawing board as part of an effort to boost tourism.
