Wilson Tower, at 1,035 ft surpassing the under-construction Waterline supertall, is set to break ground in summer 2023 at Fifth and Trinity streets in Austin, Texas, becoming the state’s tallest building, Austin Towers reports. Designed by the Austin office of HKS, the tower is a project of Austin-based Wilson Capital and will offer 450 apartments of various sizes, four floors of amenities, an entire floor dedicated to pets, ground-level retail and valet parking. The signature architectural feature is a brise soleil (shade structure) wrapping around the glass exterior’s eastern and western elevations that HKS Austin Principal Design Director Brad Wilkins said will “offer protection from the hot Texas sun and wind while also providing structural strength.” Additional features include a curved crown created by the brise soleil, outdoor terraces and gardens.
