On November 18, Société de transport de Montréal (STM) announced new elevators at the Pie-IX and Villa-Maria stations, making them the 22nd and 23rd fully accessible stations in the metro network. Pie-IX is now served by four elevators to provide customers easier access to the tourist and cultural attractions of Montreal’s East End. The CAD81 million (US$60 million) project, which also included extensive renovation work, began in fall 2020 and concluded in November “on time and within budget,” according to STM. Funding was provided by the Ministère des Transport du Québec, and STM managed the project on behalf of the City of Montréal. At Villa-Maria station in the Côte-des-Neiges-Notre-Dame-de-Grâce borough, a CAD24.6-million (US$18.2) million project included the addition of three elevators.
