Vertical construction of the new Disney Vacation Club (DVC) wing at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort at the Walt Disney World (WDW) Resort in Orlando, Florida, continues with elevator shafts taking shape, WDW News Today reports. The building’s foundation has been carved out closer to the beach. Short walls of wood and concrete have been constructed within the foundation along with concrete walls that appear to currently be three stories tall, creating elevator shafts with rectangular openings that will be the doorway for each floor. Concept art shows that the building will be taller when completed. The site of the new DVC building sits on the former Luau Cove, which was home to the Spirit of Aloha dinner show that closed in 2020. Projected to open in late 2024, the new property is expected to complement the existing resort and evoke the spirit of the Pacific Islands. Disney’s Polynesian Resort underwent an extensive refurbishment recently. Alongside the Magic Kingdom, Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort turned 50 in 2021. The resort opened on October 1, 1971, with Disney’s Contemporary Resort.
